Century Computing

Our computers today are meant to last 3-5 years. What if we started designing 10 year machines, 100 year, 1000 year? What would be the purpose? Well after a 1000 years, the "machine" will have gained a 1000 years of knowledge and expertise. There would also be a new perspective for the machine designers. Time to market will be low priority; durability, extensibility and low resource use becomes priority.

Another potential for a 1000 year machine is communication. Scientists are working on using quantum spin of atoms to provide communications at the particle level. Is there a potential to communicate into the future? If communication to the future is possible, why have we not been contacted? Maybe because we have to provide the communication medium that can be interacted in the future but exists today and will exist long into the future.

Sounds like science fiction but the quantum spin stuff is happening today with different objectives.
